Are you confused in formulating goals and objectives for your learning object? Here’s a list of verbs that can aid you in writing out the statements along with some examples.

Goals: Understand, Learn, Realize, Know, Appreciate, Be aware, Feel, Believe, Desire, Enjoy.

Instructional Objectives: Identify, Outline, Operate, Compute, Name, Detect, Volunteer, Write, Construct, Support.

For example, your topic is on Web Development:

O: Operate on a specific framework in creating a website.

G: Know the different terminologies in HTML.
O: Name the different terms or concepts used in HTML programming.

G: Appreciate the beauty of web development.
O: Volunteer to present and demonstrate your own website in class.

G: Be aware of the different strategies on web development.
O: Detect and identify the methods used in developing a website.

I love this simple format. This will be a great tool for my students when they work on projects and write essays. It’s so easy for them to come up with a big idea, but have trouble realizing all of the steps along the way. Thanks for this simple, but very helpful tip. @TheNerdyTeacher

What a great list of verbs for each goal and objective. This should help students and teachers differentiate between the two. Great tip! Thank you.

I’ve struggled with understanding the difference between goals and objectives for years; this really helps make the distinction. I’ll be bookmarking this for use when I do my winter PDP update.
