Another year has just passed and here I am blogging after more than a month of emptiness. At least I’m still blogging at the rate of at about once a month or Project 12 (not 365, not 52).

Many factors can be attributed to such ‘blogger’s block’. At this moment, I’ve got 2 part-time teaching loads (that’s somewhat equivalent to a full-time load) and a software developer job while being a part-time educational technology graduate student having a study load of 9 units. Some would say that such case is already overload, right? Well, I’m still alive and kicking though after all of the electricity problems last year and the network connection issues this year.

From a quote of William Faulkner:

Don’t bother just to be better than your contemporaries or predecessors. Try to be better than yourself.

…I would say that I am improving – that my blog is still active since last year despite some drops of page ranks. I am looking forward to better posts this year though. By June, most likely I’ll be taking my research (EDRE) subjects as preparation for thesis. Currently, I’m doing a research about educational computer-based games as a requirement for an Educational Foundations course.

How about you? Do you have a bloggable quote that you can share?

I’m now officially enrolled in 2 EdTech graduate majors as stated from my new Form 5 that is automatically generated and filled out by the system. It feels so good that I’m now on my 2nd year of graduate studies! Hooray! I just hope that I’ll get to have the reduced fees privileges/benefits too like most instructors have in the university. But wait, there’s more…

I’ll be handling a Computers in Education course at the UP College of Education! Wish me good luck!

Although I teach in the university and have a faculty ID too, it’s still not enough to get the privilege of having reduced fees.

Sadness? Well, I’ll just have to deal with this reality of paying for my tuition for the next 3-4 years. On the lighter side, I’ll just have to keep in mind that “everyone remains a student forever”.

Wish me good luck.

It seems that the month that has passed (July) was the most difficult one to handle so far. I was not able to blog any about my experiences for it was the transitional part where I really had to adjust and improve more on my planning. There was too much information overload that I got not only from teaching but also from the realizations I got from my study loads. I shall try to elaborate everything as I continue to type more on this post.

“Good teachers plan and they plan well” was the quote from EdTech that had really struck me. It was only at this point that I got really convinced that planning is not only a 1-time process but rather, planning includes rehearsing and rethinking of the overall instruction. Learning is not only a change in perception; it also promotes the formation of connections that makes a clear evidence of the processing of knowledge. These are taken in mind while getting more focused and more efficient to cover more topics in class. However, almost always, less is more. It’s always a matter of quality over quantity. I was enlightened that having more lectures doesn’t necessarily equate to good teaching because lecture may be the most used method but it is the very least effective method of instruction. Thus, I have to begin with the end in mind.

As a new teacher (and a new graduate student of Education), it was very challenging (and fascinating at the same time) to apply all of the lessons learned from my study loads into my teaching loads. Now I always remind myself that I have to be an inspiring teacher and model for my students. I have to induce active learning to transform my students and making them to learn to interact with others, with the learning materials, and with themselves. Why? Because change and transformation are what the education revolution’s all about.
