Arguing that Philippine education should be treated as cohesive passageways to learning, the panel examines the philosophical and practical underpinnings of current reform plans and proposals. The nature and pace of reforms already in place will be analyzed. Despite its rich and progressive content, for example, why has the Basic Education Sector Reform Agenda (BESRA) not moved quickly enough? The panel also extends its analysis to higher education and proposes guidelines for reform in the tertiary sector.

As I was trying to search for samples of learning object content outlines, I got a result that redirected me to this proceeding: A Design Process for Developing Learning Objects: An Instructor and Student Perspectives. Although I have no access to that interesting article, I tried to go over to its main portal, the Education & Information Technology Digital Library.

Quoting the Ed/ITLib:

The Digital Library is a valuable online resource of peer-reviewed and published international journal articles and conference papers on the latest research, developments, and applications related to all aspects of Educational Technology and E-Learning.

The AACE Digital Library enables users to:

    * Conduct scholarly research.
* Keep current on the latest research and publications in their fields.
* Access and fully search to publications in an easy, searchable, and efficient manner.
* Maintain their academic interests in the area of information technology in education.
* Receive Table of Contents Alerts prior to publication.

Export capability is offered in the following formats:

    * BibTex, compatible with LaTeX and similar TeX-based text processors.
* EndNote, compatible with EndNote and any application capable of importing references in EndNote format.

It also offers eBooks, presentations, and several featured & public collections – paperless resources! I just hope that this digital library shall also be included in my university library’s online subscriptions soon. This resource will be very handy especially in the field of educational technology.

Although I teach in the university and have a faculty ID too, it’s still not enough to get the privilege of having reduced fees.

Sadness? Well, I’ll just have to deal with this reality of paying for my tuition for the next 3-4 years. On the lighter side, I’ll just have to keep in mind that “everyone remains a student forever”.

Last week, I had my second my speaking engagement at the Philippine Youth Congress in Information Technology or Y4iT Congress 2009. My topic last year was Library 2.0 and Beyond: Library + Web Services + YOU, along with other topics such as eLearning 2.0 and ePortfolio. This year, I presented a new concept called “Education 3.0″, a new paradigm on the trend of ICT in the field of education. Other education-related talks that were presented in Y4iT 2009 were “IT in the Early Grades” by Sabrina Par and “Kinespell: Kinesthetic Learning Activity and Assessment” by Ada Cariaga.

Here’s a sample of my presentation:

Eduation 3.0 at Y4iT 2009

View more documents from nightfox.

Surprisingly, delivering the talk was somewhat easy for me because I only have to illustrate and compare the transition of education’s components from the 1.0 to its 3.0 counterparts. Although it’s just my first year in my graduate studies in the College of Education and my first time to take up Educational Technology, I’ve been doing a lot of research already on such technologies and its usage in the academe. However, the hard part in it was the research process on getting the established definition for Education 3.0 because based on what I had found so far, the term can only be defined by describing the sum of its parts.

Also, here are the questions raised by my audience:

What will happen to the schools in Education 3.0? What are their roles then? Is there a standard criteria existing to evaluate if a school is using Education 3.0 already?

…well, what do you think?

Some months ago, I was interviewed by QTV11 to talk about the social bookmarking site, Del.icio.us. Here’s a copy of the video captured by @sabbypar:

I used to bookmark a lot of articles or links about computers, technology, open source, programming, etc. but now, another tag – education has emerged as I traverse another path as an educator and a graduate student of education. The same was true for my Twitter account; I’ve gained a lot of contacts that were also educators. In fact, most of the links I post on my Del.icio.us came from their updates on Twitter. This simply means that we can really use Del.icio.us for collective intelligence through websites and perhaps share them via Twitter.

Although I have a rich collection of bookmarks on my account already, there were still lots of bookmarks stored locally on my browsers that were not yet organized. Such bookmarks were considered as my “to read later” articles due to lack of time.

Well, perhaps sometimes it’s just so hard to keep up with the pace of the development of technology and the doubling of the exponential rate of information explosion. Here’s another take about the role of del.icio.us in education:

It seems that the month that has passed (July) was the most difficult one to handle so far. I was not able to blog any about my experiences for it was the transitional part where I really had to adjust and improve more on my planning. There was too much information overload that I got not only from teaching but also from the realizations I got from my study loads. I shall try to elaborate everything as I continue to type more on this post.

“Good teachers plan and they plan well” was the quote from EdTech that had really struck me. It was only at this point that I got really convinced that planning is not only a 1-time process but rather, planning includes rehearsing and rethinking of the overall instruction. Learning is not only a change in perception; it also promotes the formation of connections that makes a clear evidence of the processing of knowledge. These are taken in mind while getting more focused and more efficient to cover more topics in class. However, almost always, less is more. It’s always a matter of quality over quantity. I was enlightened that having more lectures doesn’t necessarily equate to good teaching because lecture may be the most used method but it is the very least effective method of instruction. Thus, I have to begin with the end in mind.

As a new teacher (and a new graduate student of Education), it was very challenging (and fascinating at the same time) to apply all of the lessons learned from my study loads into my teaching loads. Now I always remind myself that I have to be an inspiring teacher and model for my students. I have to induce active learning to transform my students and making them to learn to interact with others, with the learning materials, and with themselves. Why? Because change and transformation are what the education revolution’s all about.

So what’s my new blog all about? Since I’m a new member in the pool of educators and a new graduate student taking up Master of Arts in Educational Technology in the university, I *finally* decided to start this blog. Actually, it has been more than a year already since I last wrote or posted in my tech blog, Happy Geek’s CodeX. The articles’ niches were too varied that I decided to move all of those to my older blog, The Armorer’s Scroll. Hopefully, that won’t happen in this new blog of mine.

Change is indeed inevitable and constant. In this new blog, I shall be writing my ideas and reflections on the field of education and technology that I will be learning from my experiences not only as an educator but also as a student. I also hope that starting with this very new post, I will not be encountering the so called blogger’s block ever again.

It’s now or never.
